Libya (HRNW): Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed, confirmed by sources close to the Gaddafi family.
According to reports, Saif al-Islam was shot by four assailants in a garden, after which the suspects fled the scene. Libya’s official news agency, LANA, also confirmed his death, citing his advisor Abdullah Othman.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi had long been considered his father’s political heir and had announced his intention to participate in the 2021 presidential elections, which were subsequently indefinitely postponed.
The Gaddafi family stated that the incident occurred amid ongoing political and social instability in the country.
