Quetta & Peshawar: Heavy Rain and Snowfall Intensify Across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PDMA Issues Alert

Quetta/Peshawar (HRNW)- Rain and snowfall are expected to intensify further across different parts of the country, including Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as another strong weather system moves in. A fresh spell of rain and snowfall has affected several districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Kalat, Mastung, Kan Mehtarzai, Muslim Bagh and Chaman, causing temperatures to drop sharply.

According to the Meteorological Department, the second wave of rain and snowfall is likely to continue for the next two days, raising concerns about possible flooding in rivers and streams in mountainous areas. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued alerts to concerned districts, while machinery and staff from PDMA and the National Highway Authority (NHA) have been deployed on major highways to ensure road clearance and safety.

PDMA officials stated that snow removal equipment and emergency teams are active in areas including Kan Mehtarzai, Kodak, Lakpas and Ziarat Road, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cloudy weather has intensified cold conditions in upper regions, including Peshawar, with rain expected in plains and snowfall forecast in mountainous areas. In Lower Chitral, several roads have remained closed for the fourth consecutive day due to glacier collapse triggered by snowfall. The road linking Chitral to Garm Chashma has been blocked at multiple points, affecting nearly 60,000 to 70,000 residents and forcing people to travel on foot through dangerous routes.

Authorities reported that multiple link roads in Latkoh Tehsil, Arkari Valley, Karimabad and Prasan areas are also closed, causing severe difficulties for patients and residents, with people even carrying bodies over long distances due to blocked access.
