PPP Town Chairmen Meeting Held in Karachi, Sindh Government Announces Local Government Reforms and Development Incentives

Karachi (HRNW)- An important and policy-oriented meeting of the PPP town chairmen was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah, which began with deep sorrow, regret and prayers for the martyrs over the loss of human lives in the Gul Center tragedy.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary Local Government, Director General Sindh Building Control Authority, Project Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board and heads of other relevant institutions.

On this occasion, Nasir Hussain Shah said that the Sindh government is taking practical and concrete steps to empower local government institutions. He said that devolution of powers to the grassroots level is the main pillar of the provincial government’s policy.

Nasir Hussain Shah further said that on the instructions of the Sindh Chief Minister, steps are being taken for reforms, financial autonomy and institutional improvement in the local government system. He said that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision is that elected local government institutions should become a strong source of public service and their performance should be seen as an improvement in the lives of the common man.

He announced that the best-performing towns would be provided with additional development funds in collaboration with the Sindh Government and the World Bank to bring about sustainable improvements in urban infrastructure.
