Lahore, Pakistan (HRNW)- A petition has been filed in a Lahore sessions court seeking the registration of a criminal case against renowned Pakistani actress Saba Qamar for allegedly wearing a Punjab Police uniform without official authorization.
According to court documents, the petitioner claims that the actress appeared in a video and photographs circulating on social media while dressed in a Senior Police Officer’s uniform, which, under Pakistani law, may only be worn with official permission. The petitioner argued that such actions could mislead the public, undermine the dignity of law enforcement institutions, and violate legal protocols.
The court has directed the relevant police authorities to submit a report clarifying whether any No Objection Certificate (NOC) was issued for the use of the uniform. The matter is expected to be heard again after the submission of the official response.
Legal experts note that the petition refers to provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, which prohibit impersonation of public officials and the unauthorized use of official attire.
While the actress has not issued a formal legal response so far, the case has sparked debate on freedom of expression, artistic representation, and legal accountability, particularly in the entertainment industry.
Human rights observers stress that while the law must be applied fairly, due process, proportionality, and freedom of artistic expression must also be safeguarded to prevent misuse of legal mechanisms for harassment or intimidation.
