Islamabad (HRNW)- A patient died due to alleged gross negligence of doctors at PIMS Hospital, whose biopsy was done from the liver instead of the lungs.
The affected patient, Abida Parveen, who hailed from Azad Kashmir Dadial, was suffering from lung disease and was admitted to the Pulmonology Department of PIMS Hospital on December 9. HOD Pulmonology Dr. Muhammad Israr decided to do a lung biopsy and the biopsy was performed on December 16. However, the patient died in the hospital a few hours after the biopsy.
Later, the report of Shaukat Khanum Laboratory surprisingly revealed that the patient’s liver tissue was removed instead of the lungs during the biopsy.
The patient’s family has filed an application with the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority and has held HOD Pulmonology Dr. Muhammad Israr, Dr. Haroon Ashraf Khan and other staff present in the procedure room responsible. The family has also submitted the slips and laboratory reports obtained from the hospital with the application.
Officials of the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority have initiated immediate action after receiving the request and the investigation is ongoing.
