Pakistan’s Wheat Reserves Declared Satisfactory as Government Moves Toward Market-Based Agriculture Policy

Islamabad (HRNW)- Whether the level of wheat reserves in the country is satisfactory or not, an important announcement has been made by the federation in this regard.

A meeting was held to review wheat reserves in Pakistan under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. The meeting was briefed by the committee regarding the wheat reserves in the country. The announcement of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office has declared the level of wheat reserves in the country satisfactory.

The announcement stated that the federation currently has about 2 million metric tons of wheat, and wheat can be released to the provinces as needed.

In order to ensure the supply of wheat across the country, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also reiterated his commitment to ensure food security and timely distribution of wheat across the country.

It is worth mentioning that the federal government has decided to make the agricultural sector in line with world standards. A government plan has been unveiled to take concrete steps to end government intervention in the agricultural commodity markets.

According to the official document, it has been decided to make price determination market-based to increase competition in the wheat and sugar sectors.

A system of setting federal and provincial prices for the wheat sector will be part of the proposed measures, government procurement of wheat will be phased out,

A national wheat policy 2025, 2026 will be part of the action plan, while a target has been set to complete the long-term wheat policy by May 2026.
