Pakistani Senate Calls for Ban on Social Media Use by Minors to Safeguard Children and National Interests

Islamabad, Pakistan (HRNW)- During a session of the Senate, a calling attention notice was presented regarding the use of social media by children under the age of 18, highlighting growing national concerns. Senator Falak Naz, who introduced the notice, demanded a ban on social media use for minors, noting that the current trend has become a source of extreme anxiety for parents across the country. Echoing these sentiments, Senator Fawzia Arshad emphasized that the excessive use of social media among youth is giving rise to numerous social issues, asserting that the problem has transitioned from an individual parental struggle to a significant national challenge that requires collaborative action between the government and the public. In response, Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry acknowledged the gravity of the matter and supported the proposal to refer the issue to a specialized committee. He urged all relevant ministries and institutions to work together to develop a practical and comprehensive solution to ensure the safety and well-being of the younger generation.
