At least 30 people were killed and more than 70 others injured after Myanmar’s military junta carried out a devastating airstrike on a major government hospital in western Rakhine state.

According to international media, the Mruk U General Hospital was completely reduced to rubble after bombs were dropped from a military aircraft, with most of the victims being patients receiving treatment.

A spokesperson for the Arakan Army, a rebel group active in the region, confirmed that the hospital was deliberately targeted.
Meanwhile, the military junta — which toppled the elected government in 2021 — has declined to comment on the attack.

Since the coup, Myanmar has been engulfed in escalating civil conflict. The junta has significantly intensified airstrikes on areas controlled by rebel forces. From January to November 2025, the military conducted 2,165 airstrikes, resulting in more than 200 deaths.

Despite the escalation in violence, rebel groups have managed to expel the military from 14 of 17 townships, marking one of the biggest setbacks for the junta since seizing power.
