Karachi (HRNW) — The spokesperson of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has rejected the Sindh government’s report on the Gul Plaza fire tragedy, calling it incomplete, flawed, and unacceptable.
Terming the government’s stance “absurd,” the MQM spokesperson said it was cruel and illogical to hold an innocent child responsible for such a devastating incident.
The spokesperson questioned whether the child accused of causing the fire was still alive or had become a victim of the Sindh government’s negligence, stating that the provincial administration was using the child as a scapegoat to hide its incompetence and corruption.
The MQM further demanded an explanation from the Sindh government over why the fire continued for three days without being controlled, despite billions of rupees allocated annually for emergency response and fire safety in Karachi.
The statement emphasized that the Sindh government alone bears full responsibility for the rising death toll, as the tragedy exposed gross professional and criminal negligence across multiple departments. “The Sindh government stands as the accused, complainant, investigator, and judge all at once,” the spokesperson added.
The MQM has urged the federal government to establish a high-level inquiry commission under Clause 3 of the Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Act, ensuring a transparent and impartial investigation into all aspects of the Gul Plaza tragedy.
