Major Administrative Overhaul: CM Maryam Nawaz Gives Principal Approval To Divide Lahore Into Two Districts

LAHORE (HRNW): In a landmark move to address the surging population and escalating administrative pressure, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has granted principal approval to divide the provincial capital, Lahore, into two separate districts. This decision aims to revolutionize service delivery and governance, with the formal administrative restructuring set to commence immediately following the Basant festival. Under the new setup, Lahore will see a complete overhaul of its administrative boundaries, resulting in separate Deputy Commissioners, police commands, and municipal systems for both segments. The Punjab government has deemed this division inevitable, citing that the city’s massive population has made independent management necessary to effectively tackle traffic congestion, encroachments, and local government issues. CM Maryam Nawaz has directed all relevant departments to finalize the technical process today, emphasizing that this split will ensure the swift redressal of public grievances. To further refine the implementation strategy and address key logistical requirements, a high-level follow-up meeting has been convened for February 9, marking a decisive step toward urban governance reform in the province.
