Mahmood Achakzai Warns of Possible Secession, Calls February 8 Protests a ‘Last SOS’ for Pakistan

Lahore (HRNW) – The head of the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has warned that he fears some areas of Pakistan may declare secession within the next two to four months. Speaking at a news conference in Lahore, he said that he does not believe in the concept of “five big ones,” adding that he believes in four major forces, with the fifth emerging because of them.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that despite an atmosphere of fear, the people of Lahore warmly welcomed them. He clarified that they did not come to conquer Lahore but to launch a movement regarding February 8. He said everyone was performing their duties, including the police, even when vehicles broke down.

He said that since the creation of the constitution, both democratic and undemocratic forces have violated it. According to him, some elements have the freedom to tear up the constitution and hang politicians at will. He described the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan as a “last SOS call,” saying that just as an SOS is issued when a ship is sinking, Pakistan today is also sinking. He appealed to citizens to protest on February 8 in their own way.

Achakzai said that workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are frustrated and even abusing their own leaders, but his movement has forbidden such behavior despite not being part of PTI. He said Pakistan is their home, yet people are being forced to go abroad due to lack of employment. He added that in the current system, those who sell their conscience are labeled patriots.

He questioned why the Corps Commander House was left open on May 9 and supported the PTI founder’s demand for forming a judicial commission. He said the agenda of February 8 is not limited to the release of Imran Khan but is about ending what he termed fascism across the country. He said processions and strikes would be held wherever possible.

He further criticized the judiciary and law enforcement, saying that never in history has a Chief Justice snatched a political party’s election symbol. He alleged that terrorism is being committed through the use of force and weapons, while those demanding constitutional rights are labeled terrorists. He condemned the dragging of women on roads and their arrest, calling it unacceptable.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai concluded that all the crises Pakistan is facing are internal and stem from injustice, warning that injustice destroys nations. He said the region is heading toward a dangerous war, yet Parliament has failed to seriously debate regional developments.
