Karachi’s Development Reduced to a Dream, Says Ashraf Jabbar Qureshi, Demands Accountability and Good Governance

Karachi (HRNW)- Chairman of Karachi Restoration Movement Ashraf Jabbar Qureshi has said that the development of Karachi has become a dream. We will continue to struggle to make Karachi its original form and Mini Pakistan developed. Why is it not seen that the Chief Minister is spending Rs 25 billion on 106 roads? It is good to hear the announcement of the Rs 80 billion package. But first, show the construction of 106 roads worth Rs 25 billion and let the public see that roads are being built. The amount of energy that the Mayor of Karachi spends in giving flattering answers to his opponents. If he spends so much on development and proper use of resources, then something will be seen happening in Karachi. If Jamaat-e-Islami does model working in seven towns, then we will consider it better for Karachi. Both parties are busy in press conferences and politics of accusations. If the 22 members of the MQM National Assembly and the second largest party, the Sindh Assembly, release the list and footage of the funds received and the development works, then the public will believe that work is being done. Ashraf Jabbar Sheikh said this in a conversation with the delegations of Karachi Officers Welfare Association and Muhajir Workers Union. He said that I am very sad that contrary to the court orders, OPSSC UG junior officers are posted in KMC, who are pocketing resources instead of serving Karachi, while senior local officers are waiting for posting. Those who pay 20 to 25 lakhs for each posting can commit corruption, but progress cannot be achieved. Barrister Murtaza Wahab is from Karachi Heights, but the thinking is political. He should be loyal to the city. The Karachi Restoration Movement will be by his side. The federal officer posted in KMC for six years and the OPS bureaucracy will destroy Karachi. The infrastructure is destroyed. How many houses have been destroyed by dumpers and killer heavy traffic, they were not even given financial assistance. Karachi, which pays 70 percent of taxes to the federal government and 90 percent to the provincial government, plays a 55 percent role in driving the economy. If the federal government spends 10 percent of the 70 percent tax and the provincial government spends 30 percent of the 90 percent on Karachi, the Karachi of 2009 will be restored. We criticize for building and Pakistan is our red line. Field Marshals also want to see the development of Karachi. Now only good governance and accountability can fix the system. Our movement will work hard to restore Karachi and end the disappointment. We will cooperate with COVA and the workers’ union. Whoever thinks good for Karachi will find us.
