Karachi (HRNW)— The Special Investigation Unit (SIU), in coordination with relevant police units, carried out a joint intelligence-based operation in Karachi, leading to the arrest of nine suspects, including three shooters, involved in extortion and organized crime, according to SSP SIU Muhammad Imran.

Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi Imran Khan stated that a special task force was formed last week, comprising officers from DIG West, CIA, SSP Central, and SSP SIU. The operation was conducted on the identification of Rehanuddin, a suspect previously arrested in an encounter.
Police said Rehanuddin, a known extortionist, was injured and arrested two days earlier during a police encounter. Based on his information, authorities dismantled a dangerous extortion network.
Among the arrested suspects are Jawad alias Wajah Qadri, Rehanuddin, and Mullah Shahzaib, described as key operatives of a highly wanted criminal group. Police said the network was being run by fugitive gang leaders Wasiullah Lakho and Abdul Samad Kathiawari, who are currently hiding abroad.
Authorities recovered a large cache of illegal weapons, including G-3 rifles, submachine guns, and pistols. Police confirmed that 10 cases have been registered against the nine arrested suspects under extortion and illegal arms charges.
Investigators said Rehanuddin was also involved in a showroom firing incident, while an extortion case was registered at Jamshed Quarters Police Station last month. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly made significant disclosures, revealing details about gang leadership, facilitators, and extortion-related attacks.
In total, 17 individuals were taken into custody, with eight found to have prior criminal records during initial verification. Three additional suspects — Shoaib, Tahir, and Aamir — involved in firing during extortion incidents were also arrested, along with three facilitators found in possession of illegal weapons.
Police said further verification, legal proceedings, and investigations are ongoing.
