Japan Accuses China of Radar Targeting Near Okinawa Beijing Strongly Rejects Claim

Tokyo (HRNW) Japan has accused Chinese fighter jets of targeting Japanese military aircraft on radar in two highly dangerous incidents near the Okinawa islands, a move Japan says threatens flight safety and escalates regional tensions. Prime Minister Sane Takachi termed the act “dangerous and unacceptable,” confirming that Tokyo has lodged a formal protest with Beijing. Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, during a meeting with his Australian counterpart, vowed a firm yet calm response to safeguard regional peace.

China, however, denied the allegation. Naval spokesman Colonel Wang Shuimeng said Japanese aircraft interfered with Chinese fleet training and accused Tokyo of slandering China. He warned that China would take lawful measures to protect its security.

The incidents occurred near disputed islands and are being described as among the most serious military encounters between the two nations in years, raising fears of further escalation. Radar targeting is internationally viewed as a hostile signal, often indicating potential missile engagement.
