Jamaat-e-Islami Holds Mayor Responsible for Gul Plaza Tragedy, Demands Sindh CM’s Resignation

Karachi (HRNW)- Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Munem Zafar, while holding a press conference, has held Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab responsible for the Gul Plaza tragedy and demanded the resignation of the Sindh Chief Minister. He said that despite the passage of two weeks since the tragedy, the remains of their loved ones have not been fully provided to the affected families, which is extremely regrettable and condemnable.

Munem Zafar said that according to official figures, 87 people were martyred in the Gul Plaza tragedy, but so far the remains of only 42 people have been handed over to their heirs, while the rest of the families are still waiting for their loved ones. He said that tragedies are continuously happening in the city and the relevant departments are giving the impression that safety measures such as proper dresses, kits and other facilities were not available to hide their failures.

The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi strongly criticized the PDMA, MDMA, Civil Defense and Rescue 1122, saying that all these institutions have completely failed and are nowhere to be seen in times of crisis. He said that initially a package of Rs 84 billion was announced, then it was said that KMC would carry out development works worth Rs 46 billion, while three days ago a development fund of Rs 21 billion was mentioned, but practically no development work is visible in the city.

He further said that if the funds of the federal government are also included, it becomes clear that Karachi does not lack resources, the only problem is where this money is being spent. According to him, everything is limited to paper claims and the public is being misled through continuous announcements.

Referring to the Karimabad Underpass project, Munem Zafar said that its completion dates are being changed repeatedly, while the government is merely throwing dust in the eyes of the citizens by making announcements upon announcements. He demanded that immediate and strict action be taken against those responsible for the Gul Plaza tragedy and that real relief be provided to the citizens of Karachi.
