Islamabad (HRNW)— The federal government has placed a travel ban on several senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), officially adding their names to the Exit Control List (ECL).
According to a private news channel, the decision was made in connection with the May 9 riots, following recommendations from the Punjab Home Department. The ECL Committee reviewed the proposal and forwarded it to the federal cabinet, which has now formally approved the inclusion of key PTI figures.
The list includes prominent party leaders such as Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Omar Ayub, Fawad Chaudhry, Shibli Faraz, Ali Amin Gandapur, Shehryar Afridi, and Usman Dar.
Other senior PTI members, including Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, and Kanwal Shauzab, have also been added to the ECL.
Sources further reveal that the travel ban extends to several allied political figures, including Sheikh Rashid, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, Tahir Sadiq, Raja Basharat, and Waris Qayyum.
Officials said the measure was taken to prevent any of the accused from leaving the country while investigations related to the May 9 incidents remain ongoing.
