India’s Water Diversion Reduces Jhelum and Neelum River Flows, Raising Concerns in Pakistan

Lahore (HRNW)- India’s water aggression has intensified again, and after Chenab, the water of Jhelum and Neelum rivers has also been stopped, which has led to a worrying decrease in Pakistan’s river flow.

According to sources from the Indus Water Commission, the water inflow in Jhelum and Neelum rivers has reduced to only 3,000 cusecs, while four days ago, the flow was more than 5,000 cusecs. The sudden decrease has put the natural system of the rivers and the availability of water in the affected areas at risk.

According to sources, India’s diversion of river water is a clear violation of the Indus Waters Treaty. The water flow in Chenab and Jhelum rivers has currently reached its lowest level in history, over which Pakistan has expressed deep concern.

Water experts say that the continuous water shortage can have serious impacts on the agricultural sector, water bodies and the environment, while the relevant authorities have assured to keep a close eye on the situation.
