Women in Iran face many restrictions and have been the subject of many protests for women’s rights. However, now there has been great progress towards women’s rights in Iran and they have been officially allowed to ride motorcycles freely.<\/p>\n
Traffic laws that were created decades ago have been clearly amended to allow Iranian women to ride motorcycles freely.<\/p>\n
Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has signed an amendment to the traffic code. After which women in Iran also have the right to receive training, take exams and obtain official licenses to ride motorcycles.<\/p>\n
This move by Iran comes at a time when economic and social protests in the country have increased pressure on the government. Some critics are calling it a small step towards reform.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that there was no official ban on women riding motorcycles in Iran, but the police did not actually issue licenses to women.<\/p>\n
