During the proceedings, the Chief Justice made it clear that <strong>the Haq Mehr amount recorded in the Nikah Nama (marriage contract) is a legal and moral obligation on the husband<\/strong>, and that every condition agreed upon at the time of marriage must be honored.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Justice Yahya Afridi observed that when a marriage is solemnized, <strong>the husband is bound to fulfill the commitments written in the Nikah Nama<\/strong>, and <strong>any negligence or refusal in paying the Haq Mehr cannot be accepted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing, the petitioner\u2019s counsel argued that <strong>40 tolas of gold<\/strong> as Haq Mehr was excessive and that the husband was willing to pay <strong>20 tolas<\/strong> instead.
