Karachi (HRNW)<\/strong> \u2014 The first meeting of the Board of Governors of the Sindh Center for Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE)<\/strong> was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Home and Law, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The meeting reviewed the strategic framework for preventing violent extremism<\/strong> across the province. Minister Lanjar announced that a new provincial CVE center<\/strong> has been established, which will operate under the National Policy on Preventing Violent Extremism (NPVE-2024)<\/strong> and the Revised National Action Plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During the session, participants were briefed on policy formulation<\/strong> and Sindh-specific CVE initiatives<\/strong>. Minister Lanjar emphasized that research and evidence-based analysis<\/strong> on the causes and drivers of extremism would be a top priority.<\/p>\n

He also stressed the need to strengthen the capacity and specialized training<\/strong> of police, institutions, and community stakeholders to effectively counter violent extremism.<\/p>\n

The Minister announced that peace and dialogue programs<\/strong> would be launched for youth, women, religious scholars, and minority communities<\/strong>, promoting inclusivity and social harmony. He added that rehabilitation and social reintegration<\/strong> of individuals affected by extremism would remain among the Center\u2019s main priorities.<\/p>\n

The meeting decided to develop a monitoring and evaluation framework<\/strong>, including dashboards and periodic review mechanisms, to track progress.<\/p>\n

The new CVE Center will consist of two main wings<\/strong> \u2014 a Research and Community Engagement Wing<\/strong>, and a Finance and IT Wing<\/strong>. The initiative will begin in six to eight districts during the first phase<\/strong>, later expanding to all districts of Sindh<\/strong> in the second phase.<\/p>\n

A five-year strategic roadmap<\/strong> was approved during the session, outlining that the first year<\/strong> will focus on planning, the second and third years<\/strong> on expansion, and the fourth and fifth years<\/strong> on full institutional integration.<\/p>\n

Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar reaffirmed the Sindh government\u2019s commitment to coordinated actions aligned with national priorities<\/strong> in the fight against extremism.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Memon<\/strong>, Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho<\/strong>, Finance Secretary Fayaz Jatoi<\/strong>, Secretary Law<\/strong>, Prosecutor General Sindh Ali Ahmed Baloch<\/strong>, Prosecutor General Muntazir Mehdi<\/strong>, Suleman S. Mehdi<\/strong>, and representatives of civil society<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
