Rome (HRNW)- Italy has summoned the Israeli ambassador in strong protest after two Italian military police officers were stopped and threatened by an armed Israeli during a field visit in the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred on Sunday in a village near Ramallah, where Italian officials were inspecting the site ahead of a planned visit by EU ambassadors. According to Italian authorities, the gunman, believed to be an Israeli settler, forced the two officials to kneel at gunpoint and subjected them to an informal interrogation. The officials were traveling in a vehicle with diplomatic license plates and carried diplomatic passports.<\/p>\n

Following the incident, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani instructed the summoning of the Israeli ambassador to Rome to register a strong protest.<\/p>\n
