Islamabad (HRNW)- Fake case or attempt to hide corruption? Serious questions raised over the arrest of female journalist Parishe Khan – According to details, the incident of allegedly arresting and sending to jail a female journalist, Parishe Khan, who is active for the welfare of stray dogs, in a fake case is not only shameful and regrettable but has also raised serious questions on the role of CDA and Islamabad Police. According to sources, this action is not just a legal process but seems to be the result of a pre-planned conspiracy to hide corruption and malfeasance.<\/p>\n
According to sources, the dog center managed by CDA within the limits of Shehzad Town police station does not have even basic animal care arrangements, no permanent doctor is posted, no proper medicines are available and no effective food system is seen. Stray dogs are being kept in extremely inappropriate, unhealthy and painful conditions, while the proper use of crores of rupees allocated for the dog center has also been questioned.<\/p>\n
Sources say that female journalist Paresh Khan has been providing food and other essentials for dogs from her own pocket for the past several years and this act became an alarm bell for some officers as it raised the fear of exposing the alleged corruption.<\/p>\n
According to sources, on the day of the incident, the female journalist was deliberately called to the dog center, where upon arrival she was arrested on a fabricated charge of stealing dogs and an FIR was immediately registered against her. It is said that she was kept at the Shahzad Town police station for about thirteen hours where she was not only mistreated but also subjected to rudeness, pressure and allegedly financial demands by an AD officer. When the female journalist neither apologized nor accepted any kind of illegal demand, a case was registered against her for allegedly providing false information to the officers.<\/p>\n
Sources also reveal that Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa was misguided in this entire matter and the FIR was registered by giving the impression of his order, although the actual facts are the opposite.<\/p>\n
It is demanded that an impartial and transparent inquiry be conducted into this matter, that all the officials of the dog center be inquired into and that CCTV footage from the area be immediately obtained and preserved, that it be determined how long the female journalist has been coming there and how she has been taking care of the dogs with her personal money, and that a complete audit of the funds worth crores of rupees allocated for the dog center be conducted.<\/p>\n
Journalist organizations and civil society have reacted strongly to the incident, calling it a direct attack on freedom of the press, human compassion and animal rights and have demanded that the Interior Minister and the Prime Minister of Pakistan take immediate notice, dismiss the FIR registered against the female journalist and issue orders for strict legal and departmental action against the officers involved.<\/p>\n
Because if a female journalist is silenced today, no one will be safe tomorrow.<\/p>\n
