Karachi (HRNW)- The installation of paver blocks and lighting in 14 streets of Sector 5.J of New Karachi Town has been completed. The project was officially inaugurated by Chairman New Karachi Town Muhammad Yousuf in a grand ceremony. On this occasion, Vice Chairman New Karachi Town Shoaib Bin Zaheer, UC Chairman Raja Atta-ur-Rehman, Vice UC Chairman Tauqir Khan, Ward Councilors Nisar Ahmed and a large number of residents of the area were present. Addressing the ceremony, Chairman Muhammad Yousuf said that the provision of local government facilities in Sector 5.J has been his top priority. He said that this area had been neglected for the past several decades, sewage and water problems had made the life of the people unbearable and in the last 27 years, no political party had carried out any effective development work here. He said that immediately after being elected, he had promised the people of Sector 5.J that the streets would be paved and basic problems would be solved, but initially the biggest problem was sewage and water. According to Chairman Muhammad Yousuf, after the rain, water would stand for weeks from Larkana Bakery to Nasira School, there was no way to drain the water because the main 36-inch sewer line of Sector 5.J had collapsed. Muhammad Yousuf said that the Water and Sewerage Corporation was contacted to solve this problem, but they refused citing lack of funds. Later, the technical staff of the Water Corporation pointed out that if a new 36-inch sewer line was laid from Qasim Stadium to Sector 5.J, the problem could be solved. Keeping in mind the public problems, New Karachi Town laid this line with its own funds, after which the long-standing problems of sewage in the area were largely resolved. The Chairman New Karachi Town said that in the first phase, it was decided to install paver blocks in 100 streets in Sector 5.J, out of which the work of 14 streets has been completed so far, while the work is going on rapidly in the remaining streets. He said that this is just the beginning, in the next phase, the construction of the road from Larkana Bakery to Nasira School and then the completion of Aqsa Park will also be implemented. He clarified that the reason for the delay in the development works was the poor performance of the Water and Sewerage Corporation and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, many of whose responsibilities New Karachi Town had to do itself in the public interest. He said that the annual budget of the Water Corporation is Rs47 billion, but despite this, the institution is unable to provide a single manhole cover, while New Karachi Town spent Rs90 million on sewerage and water lines from its limited resources, although this was not the responsibility of the town. Addressing Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chairman Muhammad Yousaf said that the budget of KMC is Rs55 billion and 106 roads of the city are its responsibility. If it is claimed that 106 roads will be constructed in 60 days, then despite the passage of 90 days, how many roads have been completed so far? He said that most of the roads in Karachi still present the scene of Mohenjo Daro, including the Shafiq Mor-Ta-Allah Chowrangi road in New Karachi Town, which could not be constructed despite the passage of two and a half years. He said that considering the public difficulties, New Karachi Town has constructed a part of this road with its own funds, however, the entire project is beyond the financial capacity of the town. He demanded that K.M.C. should pay immediate attention to the construction of major roads in the city. Finally, the Chairman New Karachi Town announced that 27 children lost their lives due to open manholes in Karachi last year. To protect the lives of children, New Karachi Town will provide free manhole covers on Wednesday, January 14, from 2:30 pm to 10 pm on Power House Chowrangi on showing a photo of the identity card and manhole. On this occasion, Vice Chairman New Karachi Town Shoaib Bin Zaheer said that when he visited Sector 5.J after being elected, local government problems were at their peak, piles of garbage and boiling sewers had become the norm in many places. He said that the Jamaat-e-Islami team led by Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has fulfilled the promises made to the people, on which the people of the area are satisfied and happy.<\/p>\n
