Karachi, Pakistan<\/strong> (HRNW)\u2013 Senator Rubina Khalid<\/strong>, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP)<\/strong>, visited the Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) Sohrab Goth<\/strong> in Karachi today. She was warmly received by Chairman TMC Sohrab Goth, Mr. Lala Rahim<\/strong>, and his team. PPP Member of National Assembly Shaheeda Rahmani<\/strong> was also present on the occasion.<\/p>\n

Addressing the attendees, Senator Rubina Khalid highlighted that BISP is the vision of the late Shaheed Benazir Bhutto<\/strong>, designed to empower the nation\u2019s marginalized and deserving communities, particularly women, by providing financial independence<\/strong>. She noted that the program was officially launched in 2008 by President Asif Ali Zardari<\/strong> following the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto.<\/p>\n

Senator Khalid emphasized the program\u2019s unique feature: the female beneficiary is recognized as the head of the household<\/strong>, a model considered unprecedented globally. She explained that requiring a national ID card not only provided millions of women with legal identity<\/strong> but also enabled economic independence and political participation<\/strong> as recognized voters.<\/p>\n

She stressed that BISP is a non-partisan program<\/strong>, accessible to every deserving family regardless of ethnicity, language, or political affiliation. Today, over 10 million families benefit from the program<\/strong>, which has become a robust and effective system over its 17-year history.<\/p>\n

Registration Details:<\/strong>
\nAny eligible woman can register at a BISP office with her ID card, electricity bill, children\u2019s B-Form, and school certificates<\/strong>. All services are completely free<\/strong>, and any demand for money in BISP\u2019s name should be reported immediately<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Senator Khalid urged beneficiaries to protect the sanctity of the program<\/strong>, which is named after Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, and not remain silent in the face of any abuse or illegal demands.<\/p>\n

Benazir Hunarmand Program:<\/strong>
\nUnder BISP, the Benazir Hunarmand Program<\/strong> has also been launched, focusing not just on financial support but genuine improvement in lives<\/strong>. Registration is open for children or family members who wish to learn skills<\/strong>. Trained individuals can gain respectable employment, become self-reliant<\/strong>, and opportunities are being explored for overseas employment as well.<\/p>\n

Digital Improvements in BISP Payments:<\/strong>
\nThe payment system has been modernized through the Social Protection Wallet<\/strong>, operating like a mobile phone account. This digital wallet<\/strong> eliminates complaints at bank agents, and SIM cards for the wallet are completely free<\/strong> at BISP offices and camps. Any vendor demanding money for the SIM should be reported immediately<\/strong>. The SIM functions as a wallet for women<\/strong>, making its security crucial.<\/p>\n

Registration & Complaints:<\/strong>
\nBISP operates on a dynamic registration system<\/strong>; no forms are required. Complaints can be registered via the BISP helpline at 0800-26477<\/strong> or at the nearest BISP office. The official government number is 8171<\/strong>; messages from any other number are fraudulent<\/strong>. Mobile registration vans are also available in remote areas, and registration can be conducted at government dispensaries or other public spaces once enough people gather.<\/p>\n

The visit concluded with Senator Rubina Khalid joining participants in cutting a cake<\/strong> to celebrate the birthday of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.<\/p>\n
