Karachi (HRNW)<\/a><\/strong>– On International Human Rights Day, HRCP Chairman Asad Iqbal Butt urged Pakistan’s rulers to avoid repeating the mistakes that led to the 1971 tragedy, emphasizing that the survival of Pakistan depends on democratic governance.<\/p>\n

Addressing a seminar at Karachi Press Club, Butt highlighted widespread human rights violations, the weakening of democratic institutions, and the misuse of religious groups for political purposes. He expressed sympathy for families of forcibly disappeared persons and called for the end of enforced disappearances, the release of political prisoners, restoration of media freedom, and setting a minimum wage of Rs. 50,000 per month.<\/p>\n

Shazia Nizamani noted alarming global and domestic statistics, stating that 50,000 women were murdered worldwide last year, 80,000 faced domestic violence incidents, and 21,000 women and children suffered domestic abuse in Pakistan over the last six years. She stressed the need to reform social mindsets to protect women.<\/p>\n

Dr. Tauseef Ahmed Khan emphasized that meaningful religious freedom is impossible without curriculum reform, while Advocate Ayesha Dharejo criticized the ineffective implementation of laws protecting fundamental rights despite the 27th Constitutional Amendment.<\/p>\n
