MEKELLE, ETHIOPIA (HRNW)<\/strong> \u2014 M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF) is expanding its emergency medical response in northern Ethiopia as renewed fighting in Tigray and surrounding areas sends increasing numbers of wounded people to hospitals.<\/p>\n

MSF said on September 29 that its teams were responding to an influx of war-wounded patients following the resumption of fighting.<\/p>\n

Medical teams are working in several hospitals, including facilities in Korem, Alamata and Shire.<\/p>\n

The organization reported that more than 720 wounded people had been admitted to the three hospitals since fighting intensified.<\/p>\n

MSF said many of the patients were civilians caught in the violence.<\/p>\n

The medical organization is increasing staff and supplies to help hospitals cope with the sudden increase in trauma cases.<\/p>\n

Medical teams are providing emergency surgery, trauma care and other essential treatment for people injured during the fighting.<\/p>\n

MSF said the renewed violence is creating additional pressure on an already fragile healthcare system.<\/p>\n

Hospitals in affected areas have limited resources and face difficulties obtaining medical supplies.<\/p>\n

The organization said healthcare workers must be able to reach patients safely and that hospitals and medical facilities should be protected from attack.<\/p>\n

MSF also warned that continuing conflict can prevent people with non-war-related medical conditions from reaching hospitals.<\/p>\n

Pregnant women, children and patients requiring treatment for chronic illnesses can also be affected when roads become unsafe or transportation is disrupted.<\/p>\n

The renewed fighting comes after years of conflict and humanitarian disruption in northern Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

MSF said its teams will continue providing emergency medical assistance while monitoring developments and assessing additional needs.<\/p>\n

The organization called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians and healthcare facilities.<\/p>\n

The medical response is expected to remain under pressure if fighting continues or expands to additional areas.<\/p>\n
