Peshawar (HRNW)-\u00a0Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar has said the party will try to ensure that its planned long march does not extend beyond October 4, while maintaining that the final decision on when and how the march will proceed rests with PTI leadership. His comments were made on the television programme Center Stage<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Akbar said PTI had consulted its Members of the National Assembly and the public regarding the proposed march and claimed that a majority supported proceeding with it. He said the objective was not to take control of Islamabad but to uphold what the party describes as the supremacy of the Constitution.<\/p>\n

He also referred to consultations with political figures including Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Maulana Raja Nasir Abbas, saying efforts had been made to bring them into the political process surrounding the planned mobilisation.<\/p>\n

Questioning the need for a physical march, Akbar said that if the government had already received the party\u2019s message through the political pressure and security measures surrounding the announcement, PTI would have to consider whether taking supporters onto the roads was necessary.<\/p>\n

He criticized the government\u2019s extensive security preparations, including the deployment of police and other security personnel and restrictions on roads leading to Islamabad. Akbar argued that the scale of these preparations demonstrated the seriousness with which authorities were treating the PTI\u2019s planned mobilisation.<\/p>\n

Akbar said PTI did not want to exhaust its supporters through a prolonged seven-day mobilisation and maintained that long marches were generally undertaken when political demands were not being heard.<\/p>\n

On legal matters involving PTI founder Imran Khan and other party members, Akbar said he believed the cases against the party\u2019s founding chairman lacked substance and would be resolved through the courts. He called for an independent judiciary and said institutions should operate within their constitutional limits.<\/p>\n

PTI\u2019s leadership subsequently decided to postpone the Islamabad long march from September 27 to October 4, with the revised plan providing for the march to depart from Peshawar. The decision was announced after consultations within the party\u2019s political committee.<\/p>\n

The proposed mobilisation remains part of the broader political dispute between PTI and the federal government, with PTI calling for political and legal changes while authorities have introduced security and traffic restrictions ahead of the march.<\/p>\n
