Washington (HRNW)-\u00a0The US Senate has narrowly rejected a resolution that sought to limit President Donald Trump\u2019s authority to conduct military operations against Iran without congressional authorization.<\/p>\n
The resolution failed by a 50-49 vote on Thursday, September 24. It would have required the administration to end US military involvement in the Iran conflict unless Congress provided formal authorization. The measure had previously passed the House of Representatives in July.<\/p>\n
The vote largely followed party lines. Four Republican senators \u2014 Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, and Thom Tillis \u2014 voted in favor of the resolution, joining nearly all Democrats. Democratic Senator John Fetterman voted against it, while Democratic Senator Angela Alsobrooks did not vote.<\/p>\n
Supporters of the measure argued that Congress should have a direct constitutional role in authorizing military action and decisions involving the continuation of the conflict with Iran.<\/p>\n
