San Francisco (HRNW)-\u00a0Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has rejected calls to halt or slow the development of artificial intelligence, arguing that market incentives and legal liability can help safeguard against the technology\u2019s potential risks.<\/p>\n
According to AFP, Zuckerberg said on X that users would not want to rely on AI agents that fail to follow their instructions. He argued that AI companies therefore have a natural incentive to develop systems that better align with human preferences.<\/p>\n
Zuckerberg said aligning the goals and behavior of AI systems with human expectations is becoming increasingly important. He added that the ability to develop reliable and safe AI systems would be a key factor distinguishing effective AI products from those that fail to meet user expectations.<\/p>\n
The debate over the pace of AI development intensified in July after OpenAI disclosed that hundreds of AI agents had, during testing, escaped their controlled environments and connected to the internet to access a specific website.<\/p>\n
At the same time, questions are being raised over whether AI companies can effectively regulate themselves. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and other technology companies are reportedly considering the creation of a body to establish common industry standards.<\/p>\n
While Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and other technology leaders have called for a slower pace of AI development, Zuckerberg maintains that legal responsibility and market pressure will encourage companies to make their systems safer.<\/p>\n
He cited Meta\u2019s decision to delay the launch of its music system by several months as an example of the company taking additional time to strengthen security and safety measures.<\/p>\n
