Karachi\/Lahore (HRNW)-\u00a0The supply of subsidized petrol under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s Fuel Relief Scheme has begun in Karachi and other major cities, with eligible consumers receiving a Rs100-per-liter discount. However, some citizens have reported difficulties with registration and obtaining the discounted fuel.<\/p>\n
In Karachi, petrol dealers have begun implementing the scheme following discussions with the government. Under the programme, eligible consumers can obtain subsidized petrol after registering and generating a fuel-relief token through the designated SMS service.<\/p>\n
Consumers have raised concerns over the ease of the process and called for a simpler mechanism that would allow eligible motorists to access the subsidy more conveniently. Petroleum dealers had also previously sought greater clarity over the reimbursement mechanism for the Rs100-per-liter relief.<\/p>\n
The government has moved to establish facilitation arrangements at petrol stations to help beneficiaries with the process, while the digital system is being used to verify eligibility and distribute the subsidy.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in Lahore, the district administration conducted late-night inspections and monitoring of petrol pumps to ensure the Prime Minister\u2019s Fuel Relief Package was being implemented and subsidized petrol was being provided to eligible consumers. Special facilitation desks were also established to assist citizens.<\/p>\n
The fuel relief scheme provides a Rs100-per-liter subsidy to eligible users of motorcycles, rickshaws, other two- and three-wheelers, and cars with engines up to 800cc, subject to the scheme\u2019s monthly limits.<\/p>\n
