Tehran (HRNW)-\u00a0Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry has summoned Austria\u2019s diplomatic representative after Vienna refused to issue visas to an Iranian delegation led by nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami.<\/p>\n
According to Iranian media reports, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei criticized the Austrian government during a press conference, describing the visa refusal as an \u201cunfair\u201d decision against the Islamic Republic of Iran.<\/p>\n
Eslami was scheduled to attend the annual General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, where he was expected to represent Iran. He also attended last year\u2019s conference and addressed the gathering on behalf of Tehran.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have clearly expressed our protest to the Austrian government and their charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,\u201d Baghaei said.<\/p>\n
The dispute comes as the IAEA\u2019s annual conference continues in Vienna. Iran has objected to the decision to deny visas to members of its delegation, while Austria, as the host country of the United Nations, may have mechanisms to facilitate the participation of approved officials at international conferences.<\/p>\n
