Islamabad (HRNW)-\u00a0The federal government has announced details of the Prime Minister\u2019s Fuel Relief Scheme, under which motorcyclists will receive a subsidy of Rs100 per liter on petrol.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference, Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima said eligible motorcyclists would receive subsidized petrol for up to 5 liters per week, or a maximum of 20 liters per month.<\/p>\n
Owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc will be eligible to purchase up to 10 liters of subsidized petrol at a time, with a monthly limit of 30 liters.<\/p>\n
Shaza Fatima said citizens can register by sending a text message in the prescribed format to 9771. Applicants are required to type \u201cReg\u201d followed by their CNIC number, vehicle or motorcycle registration number, the first letter of their province, and the vehicle registration date.<\/p>\n
The provincial codes are A for Azad Jammu and Kashmir, I for Islamabad, G for Gilgit-Baltistan, K for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, P for Punjab, and S for Sindh. The scheme is expected to cover around 21.3 million motorcycles, more than 600,000 rickshaws, and 1.7 million cars across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said the relief package was introduced for people most affected by rising fuel prices. He added that the token received through the 9771 service must be presented at petrol stations to receive the subsidy.<\/p>\n
Tarar said the Prime Minister had also directed authorities to ensure that transport fares do not rise following the subsidy. He highlighted austerity measures and government reforms, while also criticizing the PTI over its record in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.<\/p>\n
The Information Minister also said reforms in the power sector were being pursued and claimed that steps concerning independent power producers (IPPs) had provided relief to the public. He added that despite disruptions to maritime shipping and constraints on oil supplies, efforts were being made to keep load-shedding to a minimum.<\/p>\n
