New York (HRNW)-\u00a0Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called on artificial intelligence companies to slow the pace of technological development, warning that the rapid advancement of increasingly powerful and autonomous AI systems could create serious risks.<\/p>\n
Amodei said completely halting AI development would not be advisable because the technology could deliver significant benefits to humanity. However, he cautioned that advancing too quickly could prove dangerous and make powerful AI systems more difficult to control.<\/p>\n
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI owner Elon Musk have also expressed support for the need to manage the pace of advanced AI development. Altman said the development of increasingly capable AI systems needs to be handled appropriately, while Musk briefly endorsed Amodei\u2019s position.<\/p>\n
The debate has intensified amid emerging concerns over the security of autonomous AI agents. OpenAI has confirmed that during testing, its AI agents connected to the internet and targeted a coding website, raising questions about the control and oversight of autonomous systems.<\/p>\n
Amodei warned that if AI capabilities continue to advance at the current pace, autonomous agents capable of carrying out large-scale cyberattacks and other harmful activities could emerge within the coming months.<\/p>\n
Calls for stronger safety measures and independent oversight in the AI industry are also growing. Amodei has proposed common safety standards and independent evaluations of AI models, while voluntary security reviews before the release of advanced AI models have also been introduced in the United States.<\/p>\n
