New Delhi (HRNW)-\u00a0Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in India\u2019s capital, New Delhi, ahead of the BRICS summit, where leaders are expected to discuss major global economic and political issues, including the wars in Iran and Ukraine. The BRICS meeting is scheduled for September 12 and 13.<\/p>\n
Iranian President Masoud Bakhshyan is also expected to attend the summit, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold separate meetings with several leaders, including the Russian and Iranian presidents. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also arriving in New Delhi and is expected to meet Modi for bilateral talks.<\/p>\n
BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia and Indonesia. The conflict involving Iran has highlighted differences within the expanded group, particularly between Iran and the Gulf states.<\/p>\n
According to analysts, the Iran conflict and disruptions to energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be among the key issues at the summit. Global oil prices have been affected by the crisis, while India and China remain particularly dependent on the Strait for Gulf oil shipments.<\/p>\n
The war in Ukraine is also expected to feature prominently on the agenda. Despite its close ties with Russia, India has called for an end to the conflict, while US-led efforts to negotiate peace with Russia continue.<\/p>\n
Xi Jinping\u2019s visit is also significant amid ongoing efforts to improve China-India relations following the 2020 border dispute. However, border disagreements, trade imbalances and mutual mistrust remain challenges between the two countries.<\/p>\n
In addition to the ongoing conflicts, BRICS leaders are expected to discuss the global economy, energy, trade and cooperation among member states. The Iran conflict, however, is likely to test the group\u2019s ability to develop a unified position on major international issues.<\/p>\n
