Lahore (HRNW)-\u00a0Air quality in Lahore is expected to remain moderate throughout the day, with southeasterly and easterly winds blowing at speeds of 5 to 9 miles per hour helping disperse air pollutants.<\/p>\n
According to the Environment Department, the increased wind speed is expected to facilitate the dispersion and clearance of pollutants, leading to further improvement in air quality. Lahore\u2019s Air Quality Index (AQI) currently stands at 135 and is likely to decline further.<\/p>\n
Winds moving from the southeast toward the east and from the east toward the west are considered favorable for reducing pollutant concentrations in Lahore\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, authorities are continuing measures to combat air pollution following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. On September 10, a total of 1,290 inspections were conducted across Punjab to check compliance with environmental regulations. The operations resulted in 123 units and premises being sealed, 11 kilns being demolished, eight cases being registered and fines totaling Rs3.19 million being imposed.<\/p>\n
As part of action against brick kilns, 473 kilns were inspected, with two sealed and seven cases registered. In a separate crackdown on industrial pollution, 259 industrial units were inspected, resulting in 19 units being sealed and fines of Rs1.95 million.<\/p>\n
Authorities also inspected 289 restaurants for compliance with suction hood regulations to control smoke emissions, leading to the sealing of 94 establishments.<\/p>\n
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said measures based on monitoring, effective enforcement and modern technology are being implemented to ensure cleaner air across Punjab, adding that no leniency would be shown toward polluters.<\/p>\n
