Islamabad (HRNW)-\u00a0President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in separate messages on Defence and Martyrs Day, described September 6 as a glorious chapter in Pakistan\u2019s history and paid tribute to the martyrs, veterans of the armed forces and their families.<\/p>\n
President Zardari said the day commemorates the sacrifices made for Pakistan\u2019s freedom, sovereignty and national security. He praised the courage and unity demonstrated by the armed forces and nation during the 1965 war and highlighted the sacrifices of the martyrs as enduring examples of patriotism and bravery. He also stressed that there could be no compromise on Pakistan\u2019s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security, while calling for peace, dialogue and a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the day reflects the determination, unity and sacrifices of the armed forces and the nation. He said Pakistan\u2019s current challenges require greater national unity and emphasized that eliminating poverty, ignorance and backwardness, alongside a strong defence, is essential for national progress.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to strengthening Pakistan\u2019s security, sovereignty and defence while prioritizing economic development, political stability and public welfare. He also reiterated Pakistan\u2019s commitment to regional and global peace through cooperation and dialogue.<\/p>\n
Political leaders, including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other federal and provincial figures, also issued messages paying tribute to the martyrs and reaffirming their commitment to Pakistan\u2019s security and national unity.<\/p>\n
