Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0The Sindh Assembly continued its debate for a second day on the PPP\u2019s adjournment motion regarding the creation of new provinces and administrative units. The session, chaired by Speaker Owais Qadir Shah, saw lawmakers from the PPP, MQM-Pakistan and PTI present differing views on the issue.<\/p>\n
PPP members reiterated that the geographical boundaries of Sindh must not be changed and strongly opposed any division of the province. They emphasized that Sindh is a red line and argued that dividing the province would not resolve its problems.<\/p>\n
MQM-Pakistan members, meanwhile, maintained that the debate should be viewed as an issue of administrative efficiency rather than the division of Sindh. They called for responsive, transparent and accountable governance and stressed that citizens need better access to basic services.<\/p>\n
PPP leader Nida Khuhro argued that establishing a new province involves constitutional, legislative, administrative and financial structures, and warned that it would create questions regarding political representation, assets, liabilities and resources. She said Article 140A of the Constitution already provides a framework for transferring political, administrative and financial powers to elected local governments.<\/p>\n
Other lawmakers also expressed concerns over possible political and social tensions surrounding the issue. The PPP maintained that strengthening the existing local government system would be a better way to bring government closer to the people than creating new provinces.<\/p>\n
The assembly debate highlighted continued political differences over administrative restructuring, with lawmakers emphasizing the need for constitutional responsibility, stronger local governance and improved public services.<\/p>\n
