Lahore (HRNW)- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has warned that if permission is not granted for the party\u2019s rally at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, sit-ins will be held on the roads of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference at Charing Cross in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said the Punjab government had locked Liaquat Bagh because of Jamaat-e-Islami\u2019s ongoing protest movement. He said he would travel to Rawalpindi to meet traders and participate in the rally, adding that party workers were prepared to enter the venue if the locks remained in place.<\/p>\n
He described the ongoing sit-ins as peaceful and said the party would continue its protests despite any attempt to use force. According to him, demonstrations are continuing in Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar and are increasingly becoming a broader public movement.<\/p>\n
Hafiz Naeem said Jamaat-e-Islami had never rejected negotiations and remained willing to hold talks if the government was prepared to address public concerns.<\/p>\n
He also criticized the Benazir Income Support Programme, alleging corruption and arguing that long-term solutions should focus on education and skills rather than periodic financial assistance. He further demanded reductions in government expenditure and fuel consumption.<\/p>\n
Hafiz Naeem reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami would continue its protest campaign until its demands were accepted.<\/p>\n
