Dhaka (HRNW) \u2014:<\/strong> A special tribunal in Bangladesh has ordered that three journalists remain in jail until their trial in a case linked to the 2024 mass uprising<\/strong> that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The journalists are Mozammel Babu, Farzana Rupa and Shyamal Dutta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to reports, the journalists face allegations of inciting violence through their questioning of Sheikh Hasina during a press conference<\/strong> held before the crackdown on student protesters. The prosecution has also alleged that they contributed to a \u201ccounter-narrative\u201d against the student movement through their media activities.<\/p>\n

The three journalists have remained in custody since their arrests, while the case is being pursued before Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 25, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Human rights organizations have expressed concern over the prolonged detention and the use of criminal proceedings against journalists over their professional and editorial activities, warning that such actions could have a serious impact on freedom of the press and freedom of expression<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
