PESHAWAR (HRNW)<\/strong> \u2014 Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the Constitution clearly provides that no law should be enacted against the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, adding that if those in power fail to follow the Constitution, it is their own shortcoming.<\/p>\n

Addressing a workers\u2019 convention in Peshawar, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said his predecessors had taught the principles of political struggle and that there remains a need to follow those teachings today.<\/p>\n

He said strong defence capabilities are a necessity for the country and the state, adding that his party supports a strong defence of Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized the importance of political struggle and adherence to constitutional principles, saying those in power have a responsibility to uphold the Constitution.<\/p>\n

Respect for constitutional principles is essential for the rule of law, democratic governance and protection of citizens\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n

JUI-F Leader Criticizes Political Situation<\/h3>\n

Speaking on the occasion, JUI-F Central General Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said the country\u2019s current situation was not different from the situation in the wider subcontinent.<\/p>\n

He alleged that various tactics were being used to suppress their political voice.<\/p>\n

He also criticized the political process, claiming that individuals who could not even win a councillor\u2019s seat were being brought before his party.<\/p>\n

Human Rights and Constitutional Rights<\/h3>\n

Constitutional supremacy, political freedom and the right to peaceful expression are fundamental principles of a democratic society. Political parties and citizens should be able to engage in peaceful political activities and express their views without unlawful interference.<\/p>\n

State institutions and political leadership have a responsibility to resolve political disputes through constitutional and democratic mechanisms while ensuring the fundamental rights of all citizens and political workers.<\/p>\n
