Rawalpindi (HRNW)-\u00a0The Punjab government has approved a major Rs36 billion project to provide clean drinking water to residents of Rawalpindi and its cantonment areas. Under the project, a surface water treatment plant and water supply system will be constructed at Daducha Dam, supplying an additional 35 million gallons of clean water daily to the city.<\/p>\n
According to the Commissioner Rawalpindi, the project is expected to be completed by December 2029. After completion of the dam, WASA will work on the transmission line and water supply network.<\/p>\n
Construction of Daducha Dam has reached 92 percent completion. The project also includes a 28-kilometre transmission line, a water filtration plant and a distribution network connecting Rawalpindi city and the cantonment.<\/p>\n
The Punjab government will bear Rs18 billion for Rawalpindi city, while the remaining Rs18 billion for the cantonment area will be funded by either the federal or Punjab government, with the final decision to be taken by the Punjab Cabinet.<\/p>\n
