Islamabad (HRNW)-\u00a0Pakistan\u2019s trade deficit increased by 26 percent in the first month of fiscal year 2026-27 as domestic imports rose by 19 percent, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics.<\/p>\n
Imports of machinery, vehicles, food items, textiles, agricultural equipment, chemicals and metals recorded significant increases during July. Food imports alone reached $805.4 million, while machinery imports rose 41 percent to $1.31 billion. Transport equipment imports increased 40 percent to $420 million, while textile imports climbed 15 percent to $680 million.<\/p>\n
Imports of agricultural equipment and chemicals increased by 23 percent, exceeding $1 billion, while imports of precious metals, including gold, steel and iron, also rose 23 percent, with the precious metals import bill exceeding $730 million.<\/p>\n
The rise in imports across major sectors resulted in a 26 percent increase in Pakistan\u2019s trade deficit during July.<\/p>\n
