El Obeid, Sudan (HRNW):<\/strong> Save the Children has warned that nearly 39,000 displaced children have arrived in El Obeid during the past six months<\/strong>, placing additional pressure on already overstretched health, water, education, and child-protection services. The organization reported the development on 14 August 2026<\/strong>, highlighting the growing humanitarian needs caused by Sudan’s prolonged conflict.<\/p>\n

The newly displaced children are among more than 605,000 people now living in El Obeid town and Sheikan locality<\/strong>, according to Save the Children. Many families have fled violence elsewhere in Sudan seeking safety, but are encountering serious difficulties obtaining essential services after reaching the city.<\/p>\n

Save the Children warned that the rapid increase in displaced populations is placing significant pressure on local infrastructure and humanitarian programmes. Children arriving after repeated displacement can face interruptions to education, limited access to healthcare, psychological distress, family separation, and heightened risks of exploitation and abuse.<\/p>\n

The organization is continuing humanitarian operations focused on child protection, education, healthcare, nutrition, water and sanitation, and support for vulnerable families<\/strong>. Its wider Sudan response is aimed at reaching children affected by conflict, displacement, hunger, disease outbreaks, and disruption of essential services.<\/p>\n

The situation in El Obeid illustrates the increasingly complex humanitarian environment in Sudan, where communities hosting displaced families are themselves facing limited resources and expanding humanitarian needs.<\/p>\n
