Islamabad (HRNW)-\u00a0The Cabinet Committee on Energy, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House, has approved amendments proposed by the Power Division to the National Electricity Plan 2023-2027.<\/p>\n
The committee directed that further consultations be held with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) regarding the proposed amendments.<\/p>\n
The changes cover integrated energy planning, increased power generation, renewable electricity supply to remote areas, cross-border electricity trade, expansion of the transmission system, tariff design, energy conservation, system and market operations, risk identification, strengthening local fuel and technology capacity, research and development, and digitization.<\/p>\n
The committee also approved the high-level design of an integrated energy plan presented by the Power Division. The plan will involve federal and provincial governments as well as other relevant stakeholders and aims to strengthen energy security and improve economic competitiveness.<\/p>\n
The proposed strategy will also focus on providing electricity to industrial and domestic consumers at reasonable prices while promoting low-carbon generation and environmentally friendly, climate-resilient energy sources.<\/p>\n
The meeting was also presented with reports from the Power Division and Petroleum Division regarding circular debt in the electricity and gas sectors for the fiscal year 2025-26.<\/p>\n
