Khartoum, Sudan (HRNW):<\/strong> UNICEF and its humanitarian partners have reached millions of children and families across Sudan during the first half of 2026, but the organization warns that a major funding gap continues to constrain life-saving operations amid the country’s prolonged conflict and humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n

According to UNICEF’s 2026 Humanitarian Mid-Year Situation Report<\/strong>, approximately 33.7 million people<\/strong>, including 17.3 million children<\/strong>, were in need of humanitarian assistance. The organization reported that 9.14 million people were internally displaced<\/strong> as the conflict entered its fourth year.<\/p>\n

UNICEF and partners screened 5.3 million children for acute malnutrition<\/strong> and treated 174,700 children with severe acute malnutrition<\/strong>. Health programmes supported approximately 1.3 million people<\/strong>, while vaccination campaigns reached millions of children against measles-rubella and polio.<\/p>\n

Water, sanitation and hygiene interventions provided 6.6 million people with access to safe water<\/strong>, including expanded cholera-response operations in Kordofan. UNICEF also reached 1.3 million children with education services<\/strong> and provided mental-health and psychosocial support to approximately 940,700 people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Despite this extensive response, UNICEF reported that it had mobilized US$351 million by June<\/strong>, leaving a 64% funding gap<\/strong> against its 2026 humanitarian appeal. The organization warns that inadequate funding threatens the continuity and scale of essential humanitarian programmes.<\/p>\n

The Sudan crisis demonstrates the growing challenge facing humanitarian organizations worldwide: needs are expanding while humanitarian financing remains under severe pressure. UNICEF continues calling for sustained investment in healthcare, nutrition, clean water, education, child protection and other services essential to children’s survival and development.<\/p>\n
