Jakarta, Indonesia (HRNW):<\/strong> Save the Children has raised concern over the impact of a recent earthquake in Indonesia, reporting that more than 8,000 children face disruptions to their education<\/strong> after the disaster damaged homes and essential public infrastructure. The organization published its latest assessment on 16 August 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to Save the Children, more than 900 homes<\/strong> were damaged and hundreds of aftershocks continued following the earthquake. The disaster also affected 87 education facilities and 18 healthcare centres<\/strong>, disrupting services essential to children’s health, education and protection.<\/p>\n

Save the Children is assessing the needs of children and families in affected communities and is working to support emergency education and child-protection measures. The organization emphasizes that restoring access to education after a disaster is important not only for learning but also for children’s psychological well-being and protection from additional risks.<\/p>\n

Humanitarian agencies have increasingly incorporated education-in-emergencies<\/strong> into disaster responses because schools and learning spaces can provide children with stability, psychosocial support and protection while communities recover.<\/p>\n
