Kabul, Afghanistan (HRNW):<\/strong> Save the Children has issued a fresh warning about the worsening humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, reporting that one in 10 children is acutely malnourished<\/strong> while severe funding shortages have contributed to the closure of nearly 600 health facilities<\/strong>. The organization published the warning on 13 August 2026<\/strong>, highlighting the growing risks facing children and families.<\/p>\n

Save the Children said that in a mountainous area of northern Afghanistan, one of its clinics is the only healthcare provider serving approximately 10,000 people<\/strong>. The facility reportedly receives more than 100 patients each day, with some patients walking for two to three hours to reach doctors, nutrition specialists, and midwives.<\/p>\n

The NGO warned that reductions in humanitarian financing are threatening essential health and nutrition services at a time when vulnerable children require greater assistance. Loss of access to healthcare can increase risks associated with malnutrition, preventable disease, maternal health complications, and childhood mortality.<\/p>\n

Save the Children continues providing healthcare, nutrition, education, child-protection, and resilience programmes in Afghanistan and other humanitarian settings. The organization says its broader global humanitarian work is increasingly important as children face overlapping crises involving conflict, hunger, displacement, and climate-related shocks.<\/p>\n

The Afghanistan situation has renewed calls for sustained international humanitarian financing and stronger protection of children’s rights, particularly the rights to health, food, education, safety, and dignity.<\/p>\n
