Makkah (HRNW)-\u00a0Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and T\u00fcrkiye have signed a new trilateral defense pact, named the “Makkah Joint Defense Agreement,” aimed at strengthening collective defense capabilities, enhancing strategic cooperation, and promoting regional and global peace and security.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson, the agreement was signed during a high-level meeting attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Qasr Al-Safa in Makkah.<\/p>\n
The three leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their historical ties, Islamic brotherhood, shared strategic interests, and long-standing defense cooperation by signing the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the Makkah Joint Defense Summit reviewed long-standing bilateral and trilateral relations, defense cooperation, and other matters of mutual interest among the three countries.<\/p>\n
The agreement aims to enhance the collective defense capabilities of the three nations, promote peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond, and ensure mutual security through closer strategic coordination.<\/p>\n
Under the agreement, the three countries agreed that an armed attack against any one member will be regarded as an attack against all three, while provisions have also been included to expand defense cooperation and further strengthen joint security ties.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the agreement is based on the principles of collective security and collective deterrence and is intended to enhance regional stability through credible defense cooperation. It states that the pact is purely defensive, is not directed against any country, and is aimed at preventing conflict while promoting peace and stability.<\/p>\n
The statement further highlighted the complementary strengths of the three countries, including Pakistan\u2019s military capability and strategic expertise, Saudi Arabia\u2019s economic strength and regional leadership, and T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s advanced defense technology and industrial capacity, describing the partnership as a balanced regional security framework capable of addressing emerging security challenges.<\/p>\n
The Foreign Office also said the agreement is not a \u201cMuslim NATO\u201d and does not provide nuclear guarantees, describing it instead as a logical extension of the long-standing strategic partnership between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and T\u00fcrkiye. According to the statement, the alliance is designed to strengthen collective security, promote self-reliance, formalize existing defense cooperation, and contribute to lasting regional stability.<\/p>\n
