Peshawar (HRNW)-\u00a0The Peshawar High Court has granted transit bail to Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai, the central spokesperson of the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan.<\/p>\n
A two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel heard the transit bail application filed by Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed.<\/p>\n
The petitioner’s counsel, Jamal Khattak Advocate, told the court that his client is the central spokesperson of the opposition-backed Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan. He submitted that the petitioner had participated in a protest in Islamabad regarding the prevailing situation in Azad Kashmir, after which a case was registered against him.<\/p>\n
The lawyer further argued that anti-terrorism provisions had also been included in the case. He said the petitioner wished to appear before the relevant court but feared arrest.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, the court remarked that it was granting transit bail and directed the petitioner to appear before the relevant court. The bench instructed Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed to approach the concerned court by August 13.<\/p>\n
Speaking outside the Peshawar High Court, Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed said they had held a peaceful protest in Islamabad in support of the people of Azad Kashmir, alleging that the situation there had remained difficult for the past two months and that people were facing oppression. He said thousands of people had participated in the demonstration.<\/p>\n
He further alleged that the Islamabad administration had registered a false FIR against the protesters by including anti-terrorism charges and had detained around 180 people, including former senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan. He maintained that registering a criminal case over a peaceful protest was itself contrary to the law.<\/p>\n
The central spokesperson also said that the court had ordered that a meeting be arranged with PTI founder Imran Khan, adding that despite the passage of several months, PTI leaders had still not been allowed to meet him.<\/p>\n
