Karachi (HRNW):<\/strong> The Sindh Government has announced that its film “Mera Lyari”<\/strong> has entered the race for Academy Awards (Oscars)<\/strong> consideration, describing the development as a significant achievement for both Sindh<\/strong> and Pakistan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made during a meeting of the Film Board of the Sindh Information Department<\/strong>, chaired by Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon<\/strong>. The meeting reviewed the promotion of the provincial film industry, ongoing film projects, future strategies, and progress in collaborations with national and international OTT (Over-the-Top)<\/strong> streaming platforms.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Shaikh<\/strong>, Director General Information Moazzam Pirzada<\/strong>, Director Films Hizbullah Memon<\/strong>, board members Waqas Rizvi, Saleem Khan, Ehtesham Ansari, Rab Nawaz<\/strong>, and other relevant officials.<\/p>\n

Officials informed the meeting that the first phase of the Information Department’s film projects has been successfully completed<\/strong>, while discussions are continuing with various national and international OTT platforms and industry stakeholders regarding the distribution, exhibition, and partnership of these productions.<\/p>\n

Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon<\/strong> said that Mera Lyari<\/em>‘s inclusion in the Oscar submission race is a matter of pride for Pakistan, particularly Sindh. He noted that if the film secures an official Academy Award nomination, it would mark a historic milestone by showcasing Sindh’s art, culture, and creative talent on the global stage.<\/p>\n

The senior minister reiterated that the Sindh Government remains committed to promoting the film industry, culture, and creative sectors, emphasizing that cinema not only projects a positive cultural identity but also generates employment, attracts investment, and supports the growth of creative industries.<\/p>\n

He added that the government’s objective is to establish Sindh as a modern, internationally competitive filmmaking hub<\/strong>, creating greater opportunities for local filmmakers and creative professionals to reach national and global audiences.<\/p>\n
